Wong Hoy Cheong is a Malaysian multimedia artist born in 1960. He holds a BA from Brandeis University, an MA in Education from Harvard University, and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Wong's work examines the formation of his country's multicultural identity vis-à-vis global migration, trade, colonialism, and the postcolonial circulation of people, ideas, and capital. He uses various media, including drawing, painting, performance, installation, video, and online projects, to critique the impact of these developments on contemporary life within and without South Asia. Wong's recent work oscillates between reality and fiction, irony and transgression, and gains a new strength in the process.
