Opanas Rokachevskyi was a Ukrainian painter and full member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts from 1860. He was born in Roslavl, Smolensk region, Russian Empire (now in Ukraine) in 1830 and died in Kyiv in 1901. Rokachevskyi was known for his Academism style in Ukrainian art, with his skilful portraits enjoying great demand and bearing all the essential signs of the style. He was also the author of a number of theater pieces in Russian and Ukrainian.
