Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis. Decca Records established Decca Records US in 1934, founded by Edward Lewis, Jack Kapp, and Milton Rackmil. The Decca Records (UK) was renowned for the development of recording methods, while the Decca Records US developed the concept of cast albums in the musical genre. In 1937, anticipating World War II, Lewis sold Decca Records US, severing association with Decca Records (UK) for several decades. After the World War II, Decca Records (UK) re-established distribution in the United States through its new subsidiary London Records in 1947, with presence in Canada, Mexico, Germany and Japan. In 1962, MCA Inc.entered into recorded music business with the acquisition of Decca Records US- rebranded as MCA Records. The UK and US divisions of the former Decca Label merged as Universal Music Group (UMG) in1998. Later, the MCA brand was shut down in 2003, except for MCA Nashville, country music imprint.
