John Sokol is a writer and painter living in Akron, OH. His drawings and paintings have been reproduced on more than forty book covers. He is known for his Word Portraits of authors, using the words from their own works to form their faces. He also creates tar-and-varnish paintings based on themes from mythology and Dante's Inferno. Sokol has exhibited his work in galleries, including a show in Cleveland in 2002. His artwork often combines the verbal and visual, with verbal puns serving as titles of his paintings.
