Natalia Arbelaez is a Colombian-American artist, born and raised in Miami, Florida, to immigrant parents. She is a figurative sculptor who works through themes of identity, using her histories, stories, and culture to explore marginalized histories, including those of Latin American and Amerindian peoples. Arbelaez’s ceramics employ traditional Latin American and Amerindian processes and iconography to consider the intersection of her personal and cultural heritage. She received her B.F.A. from Florida International University and her M.F.A. from The Ohio State University. Arbelaez has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the United States and has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to the field of ceramics. She currently lives and works in New York.
