Jorelus Joseph was born on December 8, 1939 in Leogane, Haiti. His father was a farmer and his mother was a hairdresser. He learned the trade of pastry chef and became interested in painting at a young age. He was a self-taught artist and his works are characterized by their bright colors and naive style. He died in 2009.
