Luo Ping

, a prominent Chinese painter of the Qing Dynasty, lived in Ganquan, present-day Yangzhou, Jiangsu. His courtesy name was Dunfu and his pseudonyms were Liangfeng and Huazhisi Seng. Born in 1733, Luo's life began with loss and sadness, with his father passing away when he was just one year old, followed by his mother's demise.

Artistic Beginnings and Mentorship

At a young age, Luo was recognized as a talented poet and gained admission to the exclusive artistic circles of Yangzhou. He married Fang Wanyi, a poet and painter, at 19, and their children also became artists, painting plum blossoms, the family's trademark (罗家梅派). Luo's artistic style was shaped by his mentor, Jin Nong, a renowned poet, artist, and bon vivant. This influential relationship lasted for six years, during which Luo painted pictures for Jin Nong, who signed them with his own name and sold them.
