Macario Marcuartu Goicoechea was a Basque painter born in Begoña, Bilbao, Spain in 1858 and died in Bilbao in 1905. He studied at the Escuela Superior Especial de Pintura and is known for his portrait of Miguel de Unamuno, a young philosopher and writer, around 1880.
