The parable of the Pharisee and the toll collector, presented in three scenes. In the middle the Pharisee kneels before the altar, on the left the arrogant Pharisee leaves the temple with a devil, on the right the publicans leave the temple with an angel. The canvas is part of a series of parables painted for the Lutheran church in Leiden (see also Nos SK-A-2958 and SK-A-2960).
