Miranda and the tempest (1912) is an oil painting by the English Pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse. From 1908-1914 he painted a series of paintings based upon the Persephone legend. They were followed by pictures based upon literature and mythology in 1916 (Miranda, Tristram and Isolde). Miranda is a character is William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. The play was first performed around 1611. Waterhouse painted versions of Miranda at the start and end of his career. The painting is now in private collection.
