Lee U-Fan is a painter and sculptor from Korea. He left Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts before completing his undergraduate studies and since then he has resided in Japan. From the late 1960s he has been producing artworks in stone and wood and became a leading member of the Mono-ha group. In the 1970s he began to make well-regarded 2-D works by simply painting dots and lines on canvas. Even in this piece, the composition of the blue lines which are reminiscent of the eastern style brush-strokes conversely make up an abundant space that evokes a waterfall or running water through the simplicity of these lines.
