Cesare Ligari was an Italian painter and architect born in Ardenno, Italy in 1696. He was the son of Giovanni Pietro Ligario, also a painter and architect. Cesare was trained in Rome and Venice, and returned to his native town in 1727 to work as a painter and architect. He painted historical pictures for churches and private collections. He died in Sondrio, Italy in 1764. Among his notable works are 'St. Benedict' in the church of the convent at Sondrio, and 'Descent of the Holy Spirit' in the church of San Giovanni Battista, Morbegno. His children, Angelo, Cesare, and Vittoria were also painters.
