Franz Ringel was born in Graz, Austria in 1940. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Albert Paris Gütersloh from 1959 to 1965. His works are characterized by expressiveness and vivid strokes, heightened by bright, scathing colors. Ringel's art is known for its ecstatic depiction of bodies in love with lust and anguish. He was discovered by Jean Dubuffet and his works are part of the collection annexed to Art Brut in La Fabuloserie. Ringel passed away in 2011.
