Hannibal Alkhas was an Iranian painter, critic, and art instructor, as well as a translator and writer of Assyrian descent. He was born in Kermanshah, Iran in 1930 and died in California, USA in 2010. Alkhas was among the contemporary Iranian modernist painters, spending over thirty-five years of his life in education and teaching while consistently casting his artistic shadow over his other endeavors. He pioneered figurative design in modernist painting and became one of the most influential painters and art instructors shaping the course of contemporary Iranian painting. He was the brother of Mardik Martin, a film director and screenwriter.
