Heinrich Wilhelm Berges was a German sculptor born in Berlin in 1805 and died in Rome in 1852. He was a student of Christian Daniel Rauch and worked in his atelier until his death. In 1843, he traveled to Copenhagen with August Kiss and Albert Wolff to meet Bertel Thorvaldsen. He became a member of the Berlin Academy of Arts in 1849. Berges is known for his portrait herm of Peter Joseph Lenné in the Park Sanssouci, his contribution to the allegorical statues of the Neues Museum in Berlin, and his works in the Raffael-Saal of the Orangerieschloss in Potsdam. He also made copies of works by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and Bertel Thorvaldsen.
