Hua Junwu (1915-2010) was a Chinese cartoonist and painter. He started drawing cartoons in his childhood and moved to Shanghai in the 1930s, where he met Chinese and foreign caricaturists. Hua began contributing his works to newspapers in Shanghai from 1933 and went to Lu Xun Institute of Literatures and Arts. He drew cartoons of current events for Liberation Daily and was received by Chairman Mao Zedong. Hua was elected vice-president of the Chinese Artists Association, served as headman of the art department of People's Daily, and was a deputy to the National People's Congress. He published over 700 cartoons in major newspapers and periodicals, wrote the book 'How do I Think and Draw Cartoons,' and had widespread social impact.
