Lanxi Daolong, also known as Rankei Dōryū in Japan, was a Chinese Buddhist monk, calligrapher, and philosopher born in Lanxi, China in 1213. He entered temple life at the age of thirteen and became a famous monk known for his contributions to the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. In 1246, he sailed to Japan to preach Zen Buddhism and later moved to Kamakura, where he took charge of Kenchō-ji. Lanxi Daolong's calligraphy was famous in Japan, especially his Rule of Zen. He died in Kenchō-ji in 1278 and was given the Posthumous Name as Dajue Zen Master by Emperor Go-Uda.
