Lorenzo Franchi was born in Reggio Emilia, Italy in 1563 and died there in 1630. He was an Italian painter who trained under Camillo Procaccini and later developed a style similar to Annibale and Ludovico Carracci. He painted for various churches and residences in Reggio Emilia, including the church of San Prospero, the residence of Giovanni Casotti, and the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary in San Domenico. He also painted a Seated Virgin and Child, and St. John the Baptist for the Church of San Tommaso, a St Ursula for the church of San Zenone, and frescoed the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary in San Domenico. He also painted many procession banners and competed with Sisto Badalocchio in this field. He moved to Bologna for a period of time to support his nieces and nephews, but returned to Reggio where he painted a Virgin of the Annuciation with a choir of angels for the church of Santi Giacomo e Filippo.
