Luigi Capuana was an Italian author and journalist born on May 28, 1839, in Mineo, Italy, and died on November 29, 1915, in Catania, Italy. He was one of the earliest Italian advocates of realism and influenced many writers, including the novelist Giovanni Verga. Capuana was a critic and writer who was one of the earliest Italian advocates of realism. He was a contemporary of Giovanni Verga, both having been born in the province of Catania within a year of each other. He was also one of the first Italian authors influenced by the works of Émile Zola, French author and creator of naturalism. Capuana also wrote poetry in Sicilian. He was the author of plays, stories, novels, and various other theatrical works.
