Mary Kelly is an American conceptual artist, feminist, educator, and writer. Kelly has contributed extensively to the discourse of feminism and postmodernism through her large-scale narrative installations and theoretical writings. Kelly's work mediates between conceptual art and the more intimate interests of artists of the 1980s. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Kelly is also a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she has taught since 1994. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. Kelly's most famous work is 'Post-Partum Document' (1973-79), which is considered a seminal work of feminist art. The work consists of six parts, each of which explores the relationship between motherhood and identity. The work incorporates a variety of media, including text, photographs, and objects, and is considered a groundbreaking exploration of the female body and its representation in art. Kelly's work continues to be influential and relevant today, and she is considered one of the most important feminist artists of her generation.
