Modest Urgell i Inglada, also known by the nickname Katúfol, was a Spanish landscape painter and comic playwright. He was born in Barcelona on 13 June 1839 and died in the same city on 3 April 1919. Urgell studied at the Llotja de Barcelona under Ramon Martí i Alsina, and later in Paris where he was influenced by Gustave Courbet. His early works were rejected by the Llotja for being too advanced, and his exhibitions in Madrid were not successful. In 1870, he moved to Olot to avoid the yellow fever epidemic in Barcelona. Urgell was a professor of perspective and landscape at the Escola de Belles Arts de Barcelona.
