Mordecai Richler was a prominent Canadian novelist, essayist, and social critic. He was born on January 27, 1931, in Montreal, Canada, and died on July 3, 2001, in the same city. He attended Baron Byng High School in Montreal and later studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City.
