Pietro Piffetti was an Italian ébéniste, born in Turin in 1701 and died in 1777. He was the most famous cabinet-maker of his century in Italy, known for his extraordinary artistic quality and the splendor of his decorative furniture, often inlaid with ivory, tortoise, metals, and precious woods. In 1731, he was appointed as the first ebanista di corte (court cabinet-maker) by King Carlo Emanuele III, and remained the most important ebanista sabaudo (Savoyard cabinet-maker) until his death. His masterpiece, a writing desk, is on display at Ca' Rezzonico in Venice.
