Tengan Chiben, also known as Gako, was a Zen monk of the Rinzai sect in the late Edo period. He was born in Shinano, Japan in 1737 and died in 1805. Tengan Chiben lived at Onsenji Temple in Shinano and revived Kōgakuji Temple in Kai. He was a student of Daikyu Eho at Hofukuji Temple in Okayama Prefecture. Tengan Chiben was known for his ink drawings and paintings, and was a popular artist in his time.
